Best Tactics in FTM 26 – The Ultimate Guide
Are you tired of grinding in First Team Manager 2026 with zero progress and frustrating losses? Well, today we’re diving into the best recommended tactics that will help you dominate the pitch in FTM 26.
Now, if you already have an average or above-average team, there’s no real need to rush into upgrading your squad. But… if your team is completely washed out, then yes – it’s time for some reinforcements.
Let’s talk tactics.
1. Formation
Setting up the right formation is absolutely crucial. My top recommendations are the 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 formations.
Of course, you can adjust depending on the players you have, their stats, and their secondary positions. The point is to use a shape that fits your squad – not just one that looks good on paper.
2. Mentality
This is where a lot of players mess up. Mentality is a game-changer. Personally, I prefer to go Balanced or Attacking – both work just fine depending on your situation.
Balanced keeps you steady, while Attacking gives you that extra push when you want to dominate. Just don’t go ultra-defensive unless you absolutely have to.
3. Playing Style
For playing style, I usually go with Passing. But here’s the thing – you should always consider your team’s traditional style and what your players actually prefer.
If you’ve got a squad built for direct play, then Direct could be the way to go. If not, stick with Passing for a smoother build-up.
4. Attack Strategy
In the building play options, I always direct the ball to my attackers.
Why? Because this creates more chances towards goal and keeps pressure on the opponent’s defence. I do the same for creating attacks – feed the attackers constantly, and you’ll see a big difference in your goal output.
5. Game Exploitation
When it comes to exploiting the game, I usually go balanced or attack both flanks, depending on the quality of my wide players.
If your wingers are top tier, use them. If not, balanced is safer.
6. Final Third & Shooting
I keep both of these on Balanced.
Why? It helps maintain stamina, reduces the risk of injuries, and keeps the team performing consistently throughout the match and the season.
7. Defence Tactics
Defence wins championships – so set this right. Always consider your opponent’s strength before deciding.
Against stronger or evenly matched teams, I use Balanced Defending or Deep Defending to absorb pressure.
If I’m dominating, I go for Press High to keep them trapped in their own half.
8. Aggression
This is a tricky one. I usually start with Balanced, but switch to Aggressive during certain parts of the game – especially when chasing a win.
Aggression boosts intensity and can disrupt the opponent’s play, but don’t overuse it or your players will tire quickly.
9. Player Roles
No need to overcomplicate this – just make sure players are in the right roles.
And please… don’t go making a 19-year-old your captain unless you have a good reason. Leadership matters.
10. Staff Setup
Your staff should share the same playing style as your team. This keeps everyone working in the same direction and improves overall performance.
